In 1903, Cornish miners, locally referred to as 'Cousin Jacks', made their home around the old Rietfontein Gold Mine. The settlement grew into the present-day Edenvale, a large town that is made pleasant by the many parks and historical homes. Modderfontein is the industrial area that adjoins Edenvale.
