The capital of East Griqualand, Kokstad lies in the Umzimhlava River basin between Mount Currie and the Ngele Mountains...256km from Durban, 195km from Pietermaritzburg and 130km from Port Shepstone.

Well supplied with shops, social clubs, schools, historic churches and sporting facilities - including an 18-hole golf course - Kokstad is also where to arrange hikes in the Weza State Forest...just across the 'border' in the South Coast hinterland. Known as the Ngele Forest Lodge Trails, a choice of four walks - between 2km and 16km in length - will take you through indigenous forests and commercial plantations. There are several antelope species and a huge variety of birds in the forest.
