Alberton, a large commercial, industrial and suburban town lies 15 kilometres south-east of Johannesburg. The town was founded in 1904 on the banks of the Natalspruit River. Today, Alberton has become popular with industrial developers and is also the home of the largest brewery in Africa. The area includes important archaeological sites. Kathorus encompasses the townships of Katlehong, Thokoza and Vosloorus, developed to house migrant mineworkers. Alberton enjoys close proximity to all major freeways, as well as the O.R.Thambo (Johannesburg) Airport.
